GoHenry Review – Financial Management While Abroad
GoHenry Review
GoHenry is a mix of both parental controls and a pre-paid debit card. Its use and limits can all be set through a smartphone or tablet app. The app was originally designed for children between 8 and 18 years of age and focuses on giving them the independence they need. Financial education has become forgotten when raising our children, and the app helps you do that through its extensive tool and feature list.
You join the program online and soon get your card in the mail. As soon as you open the box it comes with a PIN that can be changed, and with the necessary information so that you can activate the card. Android and Apple devices both work with the app, and you can monitor the kids’ balance and spend through it. In the cases where the card gets stolen or lost, you or your child can deactivate the card online through their website or with the app.
Children can only spend the money that is in their account. There is no such thing as an overdraft fee with it. This means that you’ll be safe to let your kid use it, and no have to worry for a moment that you’ll have to later clean up for his mistakes. The security features found on the card are the same as the ones you might find in credit and debit cards at other banks. It’s obviously a kid-friendly choice, so there are certain establishments in which the goHenry card will not work. Bars, cigar shops, and gambling sites might be unlikely places for your child to go, but the extra protection helps.
The main advantage comes with the parental controls included, which help teach you about where and when the card is being used. You’re also able to directly set the weekly allowance rate from the app, meaning you don’t have to worry about transferring pocket money for your kids. If you wish, you can set goals that your kids can accomplish for extra money. This helps them know early on in life the advantages that hard work can have, and you won’t have to worry about keeping tabs on the work done.
At the end of the day, the benefits that goHenry brings to you and your kid cannot be overstated. This helps them become independent for when they want to leave the house, all the while you can keep a watchful eye in case of misuse, or in case they need some extra money in a pinch. Financial education is something we don’t teach enough, and goHenry seems to be the best tool right now for that.
